Start-Up Website for Innovative Financial Management Consulting Company: The Calculation Bar

Katherine Jasmine

The Calculation Bar is a financial management consulting company with a difference. The company builds financial management tools that highlight their clients’ achievements and help them to manage their businesses. They work very closely with their clients to enable bold decision making to define their companies and achieve their goals. The Calculation Bar project consisted of custom web design, a custom developed WordPress theme, and branding.

What’s in a Name?

The Calculation Bar company name implies their corporate vision — their number one goal for their website was to create a visual image and message that suggests a company that is different from any other in its field. The client’s vision was to portray a comfortable space where prospects and clients can feel secure in order to share their aspirations for their businesses. In this way, The Calculation Bar staff can build the type of relationship where trust is the foundation.

3 Media Web created a website that used the symbolism the name implied, depicting a setting of a neighborhood “watering hole” to set the stage for the messaging. This is a company that gets to know its clients, listens to their ambitions, and becomes so well-acquainted with their business operations that they work strategically together to achieve success.

Beginning with Logo Design

3 Media Web created a company logo that uses a stylish martini glass with a mathematical plus sign that sits on a stark white circle in dramatic contrast to the hero image. The modern and elegant typeface implies a company that is forward-thinking and state-of-the-art.

Directing the Web Reader with a Simple Narrative

The web visitor is greeted on the Home page with a hero image of a contemporary bar scene that is intriguing, and which creates curiosity to read on to learn more. Looking more closely, the reader sees a grid of mathematical symbols superimposed onto the photo image.

Scrolling down the page, two of the five main pages are introduced with an animated flow-in of images of spreadsheets and computer graphs and block of intro content for each of What We Do and Who We Are. As web visitors read on, The Calculation Bar story is told in a brief narrative that moves the web visitor to more information on the interior pages. Each page has a creative photo image that supports the theme of the website and reinforces the client’s tagline: A new paradigm of financial management.

Highlighting the Work

What We Do explains how The Calculation Bar works with their clients to help them achieve success. A section on the What We Do page gives insights to the work The Calculation Bar has done by displaying scenarios that clients have asked about and their direct answers.

Success Stories and Napkin Notes Add Credibility

Success Stories are brief case studies that, with an engaging photo image, attention-getting headline, and summary invite the web visitor to read more. Continuing the theme, Napkin Notes is the fourth tab on the main navigational bar and links to the client’s collection of blog articles.

The Continuity of the Theme

Throughout the website banners and Calls to Action use text to support the theme and reinforce the message the client wanted to emphasize.

3 Media Web created a website that while simple in its navigational structure, reveals the depth of the client company with a narrative and design that also demonstrates The Calculation Bar’s difference in the financial management field.
