Would-be World Traveler Julie Mason, Digital Media Specialist

Katherine Jasmine

Julie Mason spends her days promoting 3 Media Web through all things social media. She assists the digital marketing team daily with graphics, photography and messaging for all of the company’s social media channels.

Her job is to assist in gaining increased exposure for the company’s brand and services and to ensure that the information is always up-to-date. She brainstorms ideas with the digital marketing team and promotes information about employees, birthdays, anniversaries, company reviews, inspirational quotes, and the daily happenings and adventures of the team. She organizes the company social media posts a month in advance and schedules them for automatic posting with captions. Julie communicates with the team  to be sure everything is “on brand.”

“While it takes a lot of time and effort to research, write content, and post, this form of ‘free’ exposure shows the personal side of the business and helps to demonstrate 3 Media Web’s accessibility and friendliness. We also will post inspirational quotes and humorous anecdotes, just for fun.”

Tell me how you got started with 3 Media Web.

“I joined 3 Media Web in October 2017 as an intern. I didn’t go to school for social media marketing, but I always had an interest in it. I learned a lot on my own and I ask a lot of questions. I learn best by doing and the people here at 3 Media Web are always willing to share their knowledge,” Julie said.

Where did you go to school?

Julie graduated from Framingham State University with a degree in Food and Nutrition and worked for two years as a nutritionist for the Massachusetts WIC (Women’s, Infants, and Children’s) Nutrition program. For fun, she started a blog and decided to follow her interests in social media. Julie learned how to incorporate posts on Facebook with other social media sites. She used Instagram for lighthearted and fun posts and learned how best to use video in the social media mix.

Where did you grow up?

Julie was raised in upstate New York where her parents and some extended family still live. She was born in Ontario, Canada, and came to the US when she was five years old. Julie now lives in Westborough, MA, about 20 minutes away from the 3 Media Web offices in Hudson.

Her family includes her two rescue dogs … a Whippet mix from Jamaica named Chloe, and a miniature Lab-like mix named Kona.

What do you do for fun?

“It may sound weird,” Julie said. “But I have a YouTube channel, all about houseplants, which is a fun topic for me. It’s simply named, “Julie Nicole” and is a how-to informational video series that I’ve monetized, which is great!”

Julie is also on Instagram with Jujusucculents, where you’ll find outstanding images of her plants and advice on how to turn “…your black thumb, green!”

In addition, Julie is a lover of outdoor athletics like running, biking and paddle boarding. “I love anything that keeps me moving!” she said.

Are you musically inclined like others at 3 Media Web?

“No, no!” Julie exclaimed. “I took piano lessons when I was younger … and clarinet lessons (for about one month), but I just wasn’t into it. I enjoy listening to the 3 Media Web jam sessions, but … I’m not about to join in.  I’m an avid fan, though!”

How do you see your role increasing at 3 Media Web?

Julie sees her role expanding in the future. I have gained experience making and editing videos and hope to do more of this in the future,” she explained. “I’m also spending more time on Google analytics to evaluate how our client websites are performing.”

Julie says that she loves the sense of community at 3 Media Web and the opportunities to learn and grow professionally. She would love to see her hours increased and to have more responsibility – perhaps to have a video team and to manage it. She wants to continue to use social media channels to grow presence for 3 Media Web and its clients.

Tell me something no one knows about you.

Julie related that she is “mostly” vegan. That means no dairy, no animal products. “I visited Spain with my sister Laurie and it was very difficult to eat vegan. I ate dairy and fish. But when home, I do my best to eat a vegan diet. I feel better when I do.”

Speaking of her trip to Spain and southern France, she says, “I was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I loved learning about different cultures. I am essentially a home-body, but I really like to travel. It is exciting to discover the variety of foods in other countries and to enjoy the beautiful scenery.”

Julie is planning a trip to Greece next summer. While she doesn’t have full command of Spanish or Portuguese, she knows a bit of the language and says, “I know it isn’t easy to learn, but it would be awesome to be fluent in other languages.”

And … for a would-be world traveler, it would come in very handy.
